We Have Come For Your Parents
Ever since Amen’s debut album, vocalist Casey Chaos has been flapping his yap to anyone who’ll lend an earhole. Like his lyrics, it’s an acerbic tone that defies whatever-you-got, going out of his way to thrash any authority, another Tasmanian Devil ripping into the conventional. Like his motor mouth, the accusations fly fleet and furious, like the missives launched in “Calvin Klein’s the Killer”: “We just fall in line, we just fall behind…this fashion is a warning sign, Calvin Klein’s the killer, Varsace now is the killer.” With imagery of a Catholic schoolgirl cradling a metal dildo (from whence Steely Dan got their name, by the way) on the inside booklet, the effect is to provoke shock and elicit confrontation. But may only bring yawns to his 2K Alice Cooper-like shenanigans. A shame, since the album flames with a metal punk intensity (Slayer meets Fear) that’s drown outright by all of the hyperbole. –chip edwards (I Am Recording/Virgin)
