Drakenova

Drakenova
"Drakenova"
(8-track CD-R, mastered at ARS Studios, Winter Springs, Wally (vocals), Mark (guitars, programming), Jeremy (keyboards), 30:54)

This trio’s menacing attack follows the template of ghoulish NIN/Manson/Ministry techno thrash: rigid industro-rhythms, razor-sharp guitar slashes, with lots of inorganic, mechanical sound manipulations to make your skin crawl. Considering the limited format, Drakenova are extremely effective songwriters, employing very structured dramatics that permit vocalist Wally to deceptively whisper, sexually tempt, and satanic yowl from one demonic phrase to the next. Even without all of the harsh filtering and tonal effects, his Herculean voice would work well outside of this band’s gothic nature. In fact, the trio is versed beyond the shock genre, as "Blood Stained Marionette" contains a great Slayer-styled guitar riff for doomheads. About the only thing gives way to their amateurish façade is the flat, fake cymbal splashes from the drum programming- a puss sound when it should be breathing fire down your throat.
