Bruce Hornsby

Bruce Hornsby
Here Comes The Noise Makers
As most critics and close fans will remind you, the Bruce Hornsby you hear on the radio is not the same guy you see in concert. Mistakenly lumped with the Hootie/Dave Matthews serendipity/FMpop combine, Hornsby's tunes stretch into impressionistic, fusiony jams during his tenure on stage. Not surprisingly, Deadheads and Phish-phanatics have latched onto his band's extended solo flights and free association of tunes (of course, it never hurts to have a few spare Garcia tracks as reference, like "Lady With A Fan" and "Black Muddy River" here). His new 2-CD set captures some of those moments, interpolating Bill Evans' "Twelve Tone Tune" and Dylan's "It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry)" amidst Hornsby's jazzy/classico hit parade. –peter moore (RCA)
