Koufax
It Had To Do With Love
Who among us can resist the new William Shantner ad, where he leans over the piano and gazes into accompaniest Ben Folds' eyes and ponders, "Do you know, where you're going to?" Hey, Bill, Ben's going to the bank with you. As well as this whole piano pop phenom, that threatens to explode with its casual '80s spin for ivory ticklers with last names like Jackson, Joel, and John. Koufax is the last name of baseball's greatest Jewish left-hander, as well as this five-piece with a pair of keyboardists anchoring the plethora of synth, organs, and 88s. A tad more classically-slanted than your average guitar pop, Koufax are able to slip in snippets of Kraftwerkian synth pop ("Over It") and etheral ambience ("Out Of Your Element (Reprise)") into their sharp witted arrangements. gloria collins (Heroes and Villans, 2118 Wilshire Boulevard #361, Santa Monica, CA 90403)
