Nile
Black Seeds Of Vengeance
Caught up in an outlandish mythology of Sumarian sungods and Egyptian snake charmers, there’s plenty to startle the masses drawn in by Nile’s black-hearted rumble, with its punishing blend of desperate death thrashing and mesmerizing Middle Eastern intrigue (not bad for a band from Greenville, SC). As sole purveyors of “Ithyphallic Metal,” Nile mix spellbinding dervishes with thick, crunchy riffs, on an inexplicable sonic journey that whisks the listener (like Indiana Jones’ temple trips) from one perilous musical mission to the next. Whether it’s brushing up against some kettle drums, trading licks with a few Tibetan monks, or cowering from a bass tone so thick it needs mudflaps, Nile’s magic carpet ride is electrifying as well as unique in its lethal concoction of brutal aggression, global fusion and religious mystery. -chip edwards (Relapse)
