The Juliana Theory

Burning Heads
Escape

From the “where is he now?” files: omnipotent flannelman Jack Endino waves his magic, titanium wand over this dense, breakneck blast of Orleans-filtered punk. Orleans, France that is. Unlike a lot of continental hardcore, Burning Heads aren’t just transposing ancient Agent Orange tracks for the locals. Now on their sixth album overseas (where they’ve often stolen the shows from visiting dignitaries such as NOFX and Bad Religion), these francaise punques could probably upend the SoCal contingent with a few surprises. Hammering away at persistent riffage with vocal harmonies thrice their human size, Burning Heads’ American debut is a non-stop blur of ’77 verve (click to their cover of The Adolescents’ “No Way) and ‘90s skate thrash (squirtin’ sparks from the frenzied “Iron Dick”), along with a turbulent, meaty sound courtesy of Monseur Endino. –ml kilgore (Victory Records)
