Dar Williams
The Green World
Although Shawn Colvin may sing just a sharp sweeter and Ani DiFranco may be slightly more confrontational, Dar Williams is one of the few artists with enough charisma to combine sublime technique with attitude. Continually linked with the twisting of folk traditions, Williams’ rare talent is the acerbic barbs that emerge from her sweet smile, lacing her lyrics with mad irony and whacked circumstances. After all, who else would capsize the mores of rock history as in "I Won't Be Your Yoko Ono": "I wonder if Yoko One ever thought of staying solo, if she thought about other men and if she doubted John Lennon, worrying that he’d distract her art.” That sound you just heard was a million Beatlephiles falling to their knees in shock. Outrageous and beautiful all at once. –peter moore (Razor & Tie)
